Hazel Lee (Hurt) Caliri

Hazel L Caliri was born on August 12, 1930 in the town of Albin, Oklahoma, Puahmataha County. She moved to the Watsonville area as a child before moving to Gilroy where she went to High School, met and married Santo Caliri her devoted husband for over 58 years.

They lived in Gilroy for 15 years, and then moved back to Watsonville where they lived for over 35 years. In 2000 they moved to Salinas to be close to their daughter in their later years. She fought a hard for recovery after having a difficult open heart surgery but after 8 days, she could not win that battle... She passed away peacefully on June 19, 2010 with her family at her side at the age of 79.

Hazel was a wonderful wife to Santo Caliri who preceded her in death in 2008. She leaves behind her Sister Ellen Mc Ginnes whom she loved dearly. She was a loving and cherished Mother and is survived by her daughters; Sondra Rudell and Son-in-Law, Wayne Rudell; Jody Sodaro and Son-in-law John Sodaro; Shelia Cenicola and Son-in-Law John Cenicola who will all miss her terribly.

She was a wonderful grandmother to Wayne, Joey, Sara, Tommy, Jenifer and Johnny and great grandmother to Lyric, Austin, Alyssa, Ashley and Kylah. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and dear friends that she contacted often as she loved them all very much. She was dedicated to her family and friends and will always be remembered as “Mom” to many who knew her.

Hazel loved to play games and cards (especially Canasta, Bingo, Pedro and Sequence) and always played to win. She loved to socialize with friends and family and also loved to meet people but was shy by nature. She looked forward to going to her Senior Clubs each week in Salinas, Active Seniors, and Salvation Army Senior Center to be with her friends and to meet new ones. She loved all animals – but most especially birds and the dogs that were in her life throughout the years.

Services have been arranged by Davis Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Hazel’s life will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady help of Christians Valley Catholic Church, 2401 East Lake Ave, Watsonville Ca.

In lieu of flowers please send donations in her name to Active Seniors, Inc, 100 Harvest Drive at Pajaro, Salinas CA 93901or Salvation Army Senior Centers, 2460 North main Street, Salinas CA 93906.
